Undoubtedly, wearing the right clothing accessories during sea kayaking also makes a big difference to your kayaking experience. But you don’t have to rush things and buy all the advanced paddling accessories.
We help you understand what Clothing Accessories you should and should not wear while Sea Kayaking. Just have a look below:
Under-layers:- Anything stretchy, non-chaffing and quick drying is good. Wool pants or cords combined with a long or short sleeve rash vest work well. All are also available in a suite. You can get all these in thermal options for colder days, and you can layer up depending on the conditions and your body’s needs.
Outer-layers:- In short, the wetter you are likely to get, the dryer you should aim to stay. So if paddling is done under shelter or flat conditions, a basic level of kit should be fine. The more moderate / advanced you get, the more you want to look towards investing in a cog and dry trouser combo or an all in one dry suit. Buoyancy AIDS is also a must!
Accessories:- In terms of shoes, well groove trainers are a good bet. If you are going to land on stony beaches or rocky outlets, wearing a pair of trainers with a reasonable sole to them will protect your feet more. Pogies or neoprene gloves are great in cold weather, as these will help keep your hands warm in hot / cold conditions. Caps or woollen hats can also be a big plus, depending on the conditions. Don’t forget a dry set of everything for post-paddle summer!
Dress for the occasion, check the weather and plan ahead! Where are you paddling? How long will you be on water? Also think about the level of effort required during your paddle, the more physical exertion required, the more hot it is likely to be (don’t forget that excessive sweating can cause you to freeze over time, so Some have to be taken into account. Keep the gear in mind).
